Simon Sebag Montefiore spoke at AUC Tahrir Bookstore

Simon Sebag Montefiore, British historian, television presenter, and bestselling author of popular history books and novels, who has won prizes for his works, both non-fiction and fiction, spoke at the AUC Tahrir Bookstore last Thursday, to an large audience of aficionados from the Cairo community.

In a discussion moderated by Ester Nader, senior officer, AUC Bookstore Sales and Marketing, Montefiore talked about his new book Voices of History: Speeches that Changed the World, about the great speeches of world history and cultural life. He read extracts from his book Written in History: Letters that Changed the World, the great letters of world history, creative culture, and personal life, and talked briefly about his other international bestsellers, Jerusalem: The Biography, Romanovs: 1613-1918, and Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar.

Jerusalem: The Biography was a global number 1 bestseller and won the Wenjin Book of the Year Prize (awarded by the Library of China in the People’s Republic of China). The Romanovs won the Lupicaia del Terriccio Literature Prize (Italy), was chosen as one of Oprah Winfrey’s Books of the Year (USA) and has been a bestseller all over the world, including the UK, Australia, Brazil, Spain and the USA where it was in the New York Times bestseller list for eight weeks. Stalin won History Book of the Year at the 2004 British Book Awards.
