Egypt’s Supreme Council for Culture announced yesterday, June 1, during its 65th annual meeting, that Cairo since 1900: An Architectural Guide by Mohamed Elshahed, published by AUC Press (2020), is the winner of the 2021 State Incentive Award in the category of Architectural and Urban Publishing.
The event was held in the Grand Theater of the Egyptian Opera House, headed by Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem.
The other awards include the Nile Award, the Appreciation Award, and the Excellence Award given in the three main areas, Arts, Literature, and the Social Sciences.
Four AUC Press novelists also received awards yesterday. The late Bahaa Abdelmeguid, author of a collection of short stories, two novellas, Saint Theresa and Sleeping with Strangers, (2010), and several novels, among them Temple Bar (2014), was awarded the State Award for Excellence in Literature. Mohamed Salmawy, author of Butterfly Wings (AUC Press, 2014) won the prestigious Nile Award in the literature category, while Mohamed Mansi Qandil, author of Moon over Samarqand (AUC Press, 2009) and Salwa Bakr, author of The Golden Chariot (AUC Press, 2009) and The Man from Bashmour (AUC Press 2007), won State Appreciation Awards in the literature category.
