A Book Talk with renowned archaeologist Zahi Hawass

AUC Press hosted a book talk by Dr. Hawass who presented a lecture on the new paperback edition of his book, Mountains of the Pharaohs: The Untold Story of the Pyramid Builders (AUC Press, 2024). A compelling account of one of civilization’s greatest achievements.

He walked us through the story of the pyramids, weaving archaeological data with a history of Egypt’s powerful pharaohs, and argued that the pyramids—including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only one of the Seven Wonders of the World still standing—were built by skilled craftsmen who took great pride in their work.

Dr. Zahi discussed how state-of-the-art robotics and space exploration technology were employed to examine beyond a sealed door within an air shaft in the Queen’s Chamber in Khufu’s Pyramid.

The talk was followed by a Q&A session, providing the audience with an opportunity to ask questions to Dr. Hawass.

The event wrapped up with people from various backgrounds, including children, lining up to get their books signed and take pictures with Dr. Zahi Hawass.

It was a delightful book talk that provided a memorable experience for everyone.
