Panel Discussion Announcement: AUC Press Author Ashraf Ashmawi

A panel discussion featuring Ashraf El-Ashmawi, a renowned AUC Press author and judge, is scheduled as part of the Tahrir Cultural Festival organized by the American University in Cairo.

Ashraf El-Ashmawi is the author of The House of the Coptic Woman and The Lady of Zamalek, both translated by Peter Daniel.

The discussion will focus on the theme “Cairo veiled in the tales of storytellers and the narratives of writers and literati.” It aims to explore how the novels take shape in their narratives, as well as how the city is portrayed through the annals of history and the pens of historians and writers. This insightful dialogue will go deep into how Cairo becomes a tale or story interwoven into the fabric of collective memory and imagination.

‍The discussion will feature Ashraf El-Ashmawi in conversation with Omar Taher (Journalist; Poet; Writer) and moderated by Omar El Maadawy (Content Creator).
