Hammour Ziada speaks at AUC Common Reading Program

On October 23, acclaimed author Hammour Ziada will talk about his book The Longing of the Dervish, translated by Jonathan Wright (Hoopoe, 2016), at AUC New Cairo.

Invited as part of the the university’s Common Reading Program, in this ‘Meet The Author’ event the Sudanese author, winner of the 2014 Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature, will answer questions from moderator Doris Jones,  AUC Senior Instructor, Department of Rhetoric and Composition.

The Longing of the Dervish has drawn very positive reviews, including from the Financial Times: “Ziada constructs, in exquisitely lyrical language, the story of Bakheet’s love for the white woman who finds solace in his company but cannot imagine marrying a slave.”

The event is open to the public (with valid photo ID). It will be held from 1:00–2:00pm in Mohamed Shafik Gabr Lectured Hall, on the AUC New Cairo campus.
